How Maple Syrup Is Collected: From Tree to Table

How Maple Syrup Is Collected: From Tree to Table

The journey of maple syrup is nothing short of magical. Here’s how it makes its way from tree to table:

  1. Tapping the Trees: Maple syrup production begins when the sap starts flowing in the spring. Sugar maple trees are tapped with a small hole to collect the sap, which is the key ingredient in syrup.

  2. Transporting the Sap: The sap is either collected by hand in buckets or pumped through tubing into large storage tanks. It’s important to keep the sap cold to prevent fermentation.

  3. Boiling the Sap: The sap is boiled down in an evaporator, where the water content is removed. This process can take hours, and as the sap thickens, it turns into syrup.

  4. Filtering and Bottling: The syrup is filtered to remove any particles or impurities, then it’s bottled, ready for use.

The end result is a bottle of syrup that captures the essence of spring in every drop.
